Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath held talks on Friday with Russia’s Ambassador to Colombo Levan S. Dzhagaryan on the possibility of purchasing Russian fuel to ease supply disruptions triggered by unrest in the Middle East.

The discussions took place following the lifting of sanctions that had previously restricted Sri Lanka from importing Russian oil. During the meeting, Herath raised the prospect of securing fuel supplies from Moscow as part of efforts to stabilise the country’s energy network.

Ambassador Dzhagaryan said he would immediately convey Sri Lanka’s request to the Russian Government and pledged to coordinate with the relevant institutions to facilitate the necessary arrangements. He also assured that Russia would extend support to Sri Lanka whenever required.

Deputy Minister of Labour, Finance and Planning Anil Jayantha, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna, ministerial secretaries, and senior officials also attended the discussions.
