The Government has declared every Wednesday a holiday for public sector institutions until further notice as part of measures to manage the country’s fuel consumption.

Commissioner General of Essential Services announced that the weekly holiday will apply to all government offices, including judicial services, schools and universities.

However, several essential services will continue to operate as usual. The Health sector, Ports, Water Supply services and the Department of Customs have been excluded from the special holiday arrangement.

The Commissioner General further stated that all state events will also be suspended during this period. In addition, the private sector has been requested to declare Wednesdays as a holiday in line with the Government’s measure.

Meanwhile, the authorities noted that fuel requirements for key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, health and plantation industries will be assessed separately. Based on these assessments, additional fuel quotas are expected to be released to ensure that essential economic activities continue without disruption.
