President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a telephone conversation with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to discuss escalating regional developments and matters of bilateral importance.

During the call, President Dissanayake conveyed Sri Lanka’s solidarity with Qatar in light of ongoing Iranian aggression affecting the country and the wider region.

The Amir assured that the situation within Qatar remains stable, with particular emphasis on the safety and wellbeing of the Sri Lankan community residing in the country. He reiterated the Qatari Government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of all residents.

The discussion also focused on broader regional challenges, including rising military tensions and their potential impact on global energy markets and supply chains. President Dissanayake stressed the importance of coordinated international efforts to address these concerns.

The Amir, in turn, underscored Qatar’s position as a reliable energy partner and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stable energy supplies despite current challenges.

Both leaders emphasised the urgent need for strengthened regional and international engagement to de-escalate tensions and pursue diplomatic solutions to the crisis.
