Former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo today(25) following a sudden illness.
Sallay is currently being held under a 90-day detention order by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks. He was arrested on 25 February under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
Investigators are probing allegations that Sallay aided and abetted the coordinated bombings, which killed more than 260 people.
Appointed in December 2019, Sallay became the first military officer to head the SIS. His tenure has remained under scrutiny, particularly following a 2023 documentary that alleged links between intelligence officials and the attackers—claims he has consistently denied as baseless.
