President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed his condolences over the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, describing him as a “visionary leader” whose impact extended far beyond India’s borders.

In a message posted on X, the President extended his sympathies to the Republic of India, Dr. Singh’s family, and his admirers worldwide. Highlighting Dr. Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, he noted the transformative policies introduced under his leadership, including the Right to Education Act and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. These initiatives, the President stated, underscored Dr. Singh’s dedication to equity and inclusivity.

President Dissanayake also praised Dr. Singh’s role as a champion of international collaboration, pointing to his contributions to coalitions such as BRICS and his diplomatic achievements, including the Indo-US nuclear agreement. He remarked on Dr. Singh’s humility, intellect, and commitment to public service, describing them as qualities that would inspire generations to come.

“May his soul find peace and be united with the divine,” the President concluded in his tribute.
