The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) resumed an island-wide strike at 8 a.m. today (4), escalating its ongoing trade union action against the alleged politicisation of the doctors’ transfer process.
GMOA Assistant Secretary Chamil Wijesinghe said that a decision on whether to call off the strike would be taken at the Central Committee meeting scheduled for later today.
The GMOA had already staged two rounds of strike action earlier this week over the same issue. Wijesinghe noted that the decision to resume the strike was taken in response to what the association described as an unsatisfactory reaction from the authorities to its previous protests.
