EDB conducts a networking session for women entrepreneurs

The Export Development Board (EDB) successfully conducted a networking and knowledge sharing session for women entrepreneurs registered under the “Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme” at the EDB-NDB Tower, Colombo 02 recently. Lack of networking opportunities with entrepreneurs, industry leaders.

This exclusive session brought together 50 women entrepreneurs registered with EDB, leading exporters including SME direct exporters and indirect exporters and academics. Designed to inspire and educate, the event fostered connections, facilitated knowledge sharing and encouraged collaboration to help women entrepreneurs navigate the international market. The event featured a distinguished panel of speakers who shared their expertise on various topics critical to success in the global marketplace.

Ms. Mano Sheriff, Managing Director, Ceylon Natural Rubber (Pvt) Ltd discussed the importance of sustainable export practices. She highlighted strategies for incorporating sustainability into export operations.

Mr. Adrian Gabriel, General Manager (Tea) of Akbar Brothers (Pvt) Ltd shared real life examples of development in competitive international markets. As a senior tea taster managing markets across Europe, the Middle East and Australia, he provided insight into overcoming market access challenges.

Professor Arosha Adikaram, Chairperson of Human Resource Management, University of Colombo emphasized the importance of understanding and mitigating legal risks in labor management. Drawing on her extensive research and consulting experience, she emphasized strategies for creating safe and compliant workplaces.

Ms. Priyanka Perera, Head of Operations, Orel Academy, explored the nuances of cultural differences and their impact on international negotiations. Her diverse industry experience provided participants with actionable tips for successful cross-border collaborations.

Ms. Priyadarshini Karunaratne, a business consultant and sustainability practitioner, highlighted the growing global demand for sustainable practices and the opportunities it presents for export businesses.

Ms. Nirosha Jagoda, Managing Director, British Cosmetics (Pvt) Ltd captivated the audience by presenting valuable lessons for exporters on entering challenging markets and excelling.

The session was a huge success, enabling women entrepreneurs to expand their networks and gain insight from industry leaders. EDB continues to empower women entrepreneurs to reach higher levels in the export sector by addressing barriers and fostering an environment for shared learning.

EDB Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mangala Wijesinghe, EDB Director General Ms. C. D. Dharmasena, EDB Directors and Officers also attended the event.
