President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to present a new economic relief package to Parliament today (7 April), aimed at addressing the ongoing economic crisis.

The announcement was made by Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake, who informed Parliament of the President’s planned appearance.

He stated that the Cabinet had recently proposed a new relief package, while a special committee has also been appointed under the leadership of Minister Upali Pannila to examine matters related to fuel pricing.

“A new economic relief package was proposed at the Cabinet. A special committee has also been appointed under Minister Upali Pannila regarding fuel prices. The President will come to Parliament at 12 noon today and present the relief proposal that was submitted to the Cabinet yesterday,” Rathnayake said.

He further requested that the Committee on Parliamentary Business be convened at 12.30 p.m., in view of the President’s attendance in the House.

The proposed relief package is expected to focus on easing the burden on the public amid continued economic pressures.
