A Sri Lankan passenger arriving from Bangkok was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport with 2,505 grams of kush cannabis worth an estimated Rs. 25 million.
The suspect, a 33-year-old resident of Colombo, is reported to be a photographer.
Customs Narcotics Control Unit officers intercepted the passenger while he was attempting to exit through the Green Channel.
Upon inspecting his luggage after becoming suspicious, officers discovered the narcotics carefully concealed inside packets of dried fruit.
Authorities said the dried fruit had been removed from the packets and replaced with the kush consignment in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
The suspect and the seized drugs are due to be handed over to the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
