There is no need to present hampers when extending New Year or Sinhala and Tamil New Year wishes to senior police officers in the Northern Province, SDIG North Thilak Dhanapala has informed police officers in writing.

Copies of the letter have been forwarded to the DIGs of Kilinochchi, Vanni, and Jaffna Districts, divisional police chiefs, district officers in charge, and OICs in the Northern Province.

In the letter, the SDIG stated that it has become customary for officers to bring hampers when visiting him and other senior officers during special occasions. However, starting this year, such practices are no longer necessary.

Additionally, there is no requirement to visit senior officers in person to convey New Year wishes. If officers wish to extend their greetings, they may do so via text message, WhatsApp, or a phone call, the SDIG advised.
