New Army, Navy Commanders Appointed

New Army, Navy Commanders Appointed

Major General Lasantha Rodrigo has been appointed as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, while Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda has been named the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, the Ministry of Defence announced.

Major General Rodrigo succeeds Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, who retired from active service. A seasoned military officer, Rodrigo previously served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, showcasing a distinguished career marked by leadership and service.

Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda assumes command of the Sri Lanka Navy after serving as its Chief of Staff since August 2024. He has held several key positions, including Commander of the Southeastern, North Central, Northern, and Eastern Naval Areas. Additionally, he has commanded various Fast Attack Craft, Ships, and Establishments within the Navy.

In recognition of his service, Rear Admiral Banagoda has been awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama for gallantry and the Uththama Sewa Padakkama (USP) for his dedication to duty.
