Minister of Power and Energy Anura Karunathilaka today (11) said the QR code fuel distribution system would continue in order to prevent unnecessary spending of US dollars and manage fuel consumption effectively.

The Minister stated that the decision had been taken considering fluctuations in global fuel prices, the need to avoid unnecessary dollar outflows, and panic buying by consumers.

He said the QR code mechanism would therefore continue to be maintained as a measure to regulate and manage fuel consumption.

However, Karunathilaka noted that the Government was considering increasing the fuel quota currently allocated under the system.

He also stressed that the country currently had sufficient fuel stocks and that future fuel orders had been placed properly, ensuring the uninterrupted continuation of fuel supplies.
