The Colombo High Court today (18) ordered the temporary lifting of the overseas travel ban imposed on Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, who is facing corruption-related charges.
The case was taken up following a motion filed before court, during which MP Dassanayake appeared before the judge.
Counsel appearing for the defence informed court that the MP was required to travel overseas and requested that the travel restriction imposed on him be temporarily lifted.
After considering the submissions made, the court granted the request and ordered the temporary suspension of the travel ban.
MP Dassanayake is facing charges over allegations that, while serving as the Chief Minister of the Uva Provincial Council in 2016, he deposited a cheque issued for the Provincial Council into his personal bank account.
