The Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) has agreed to vacate the Malwana property occupied by its members following discussions held with the Prime Minister today (18).
Speaking to the media after the meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, IUSF Convener Sasindu Perera said the decision was reached following an agreement with the Prime Minister.
Perera stated that the Prime Minister had agreed to transfer the land and house in Malwana, currently under the custody of the Dompe Divisional Secretariat, to the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Accordingly, he said the group, including himself, was taking steps to leave the premises.
A group of IUSF students had occupied the property in Malwana since 14 May, staging a protest urging the Government to utilise ownerless state-owned properties to address the shortage of student accommodation and space within universities.
