The Colombo High Court is scheduled to deliver its verdict today (9) in four corruption cases filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against former Deputy Minister Saran Gunawardena.
The judgments were initially due to be delivered on 26 May. However, when the cases were called on that date, the presiding judge informed court that the written judgments had not yet been completed.
The judge subsequently ordered that the verdicts be delivered today.
The cases were filed by the Bribery Commission over allegations that Gunawardena caused a loss to the State while serving as Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board in 2006. The charges relate to the procurement of vehicles for the institution on a rental basis, which investigators allege resulted in financial losses to the Government.
