SLPP National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa yesterday (9) joined the ongoing protest campaign near the Colombo Fort Railway Station in support of former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Major General (Retd.) Suresh Sallay.

The protest, jointly organised by several opposition political parties, was launched to condemn what organisers describe as the inhumane and cruel treatment of Sallay under the current administration.

Namal Rajapaksa visited the protest site and met with demonstrators, expressing solidarity with opposition leaders and activists participating in the campaign.

Among those continuously engaged in the protest over the past two days were Udaya Gammanpila, Wimal Weerawansa, representatives of the SLPP and several other opposition groups.

Addressing the gathering, Rajapaksa said the protest was aimed at standing up for military personnel who had contributed to the country’s security.

“We stand for the war heroes of this country. The victory was achieved on 18 May. While the people of the country enjoy the benefits of that victory, those who sacrificed for it are unable to enjoy it themselves,” he said.

Referring to the Easter Sunday attacks investigations, Rajapaksa claimed that justice would only be achieved when questions surrounding the inclusion of an individual linked to the attackers in the JVP’s National List and the legal representation provided to him are fully answered.

He further alleged that ordinary citizens were being subjected to injustice due to what he described as a politically motivated agenda pursued in the name of delivering accountability.
