A 73-year-old Indian national was among those killed during the recent violent unrest at the Negombo Prison, Police said.
According to the Police Media Division, the inmate died during the clashes that erupted inside the prison.
Police said the announcement of his death had been delayed as authorities required additional time to confirm his identity.
The deceased had been remanded in custody after being arrested in 2025 on charges of importing 1.908 kilograms of kush by air and possessing the narcotic, police added.
