Parliament to Convene from 7 to 10 January: See Full Agenda

Parliament is set to convene from 7 to 10 January 2025, Secretary-General of Parliament, Kushani Rohanadeera said.

The decision was made during the Committee on Parliamentary Business meeting held on 31 December 2024, chaired by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne.

The sessions will commence on Tuesday, 7 January, with time allocated from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for Questions for Oral Answers. This will be followed by an Adjournment Debate on the Government’s “Mid-Year Fiscal Position Report – 2024,” which is scheduled to take place from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, 8 January, the day will begin with Questions for the Prime Minister from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by five Questions for Oral Answers from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The main debate, scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., will focus on various regulations and orders, including those under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, Foreign Exchange Act, Payment and Settlement Systems Act, Casino Business (Regulation) Act, Ports and Airports Development Levy Act, and Colombo Port City Economic Commission Act. The day will conclude with Questions at Adjournment Time from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, 9 January, will start with a session for Questions for Oral Answers from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This will be followed by debates on orders under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act, six orders under the Special Commodity Levy Act, and a notification under the Welfare Benefits Act, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The rest of the day, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., will be dedicated to an Adjournment Debate moved by the Opposition.

The final day of the parliamentary sessions, Friday, 10 January, will be entirely devoted to Votes of Condolence for former MPs Kumara Welgama, H. Nandasena, and Tudor Gunasekera.
