Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala revealed further details in Parliament regarding a man who recently held a media briefing claiming to have discovered an LTTE training camp in Pallai, Kilinochchi, stating that official investigations found no evidence to support the claim.

Wijepala identified the individual as Sangeeth Jayasekara, a resident of Boralesgamuwa, who has been arrested and remanded for 14 days. Investigations revealed that the suspect possessed two fake identity cards, used seven different addresses, falsely posed as a doctor, and was named as a suspect in three separate criminal cases, including fraud. The minister added that Jayasekara had previously been employed as a consultant attached to certain ministerial staff, an area authorities are currently investigating.

Following the suspect’s claims, authorities inspected the site in Kilinochchi and confirmed it was a cultivation site with no evidence of terrorist activity. Wijepala accused the suspect of intentionally misleading the public to incite racial or communal divisions, reaffirming that the government will allow no room for terrorism or attempts to create communal tension.

The government had previously rejected social media claims about the site. Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa clarified that the location in Kannagipuram, Mukkanpam, Kilinochchi, is land gazetted as a forest reserve in 1919. Jayatissa stated the issue involves illegal occupation, unauthorized construction, cultivation, and sand mining rather than any terrorist camp.

According to Jayatissa, unauthorized forest clearing began in 2025, expanding from 10 to 20 acres for aloe vera and vegetable farming, along with a three-storey building for apparel manufacturing. Seven court cases have been filed against an individual named Thyagarasa Kuladeepan over activities at the location. Despite a Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Court order in February instructing the individual to vacate the land, illegal activities and heavy machinery sand mining have continued.
