The National People’s Power (NPP) will launch a series of public rallies across the country from September 6 under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said.

Speaking to the media in Kalutara, Jayatissa said the rallies would be held across several districts as part of the party’s ongoing political programme.

He said the NPP was also carrying out a reorganisation programme at the Grama Niladhari division level to strengthen its grassroots structure.

Meanwhile, Jayatissa challenged opposition parties to demonstrate their claims that public sentiment was turning against the Government by mobilising people and holding public rallies.

“Instead of conspiring at G.L. Peiris’ house at night, tell them to come out onto the streets. Tell them to hold public meetings and mobilise the people,” he said.

“If there is such public opinion against the Government, prove it. That is all they have to do. Tell them to look at least a little at the programme we carried out when we were in the Opposition,” Jayatissa added.

The NPP’s rally campaign is scheduled to commence on September 6, with President Dissanayake expected to lead the programme across the districts.
