Water levels in reservoirs used for hydropower generation have reached approximately 67% of their total capacity, according to the National System Operator.

The company said the available water reserves were sufficient to support hydropower generation until October, following rainfall in the upper catchment areas of hydroelectric reservoirs.

It said future decisions on hydropower generation would be made after assessing rainfall patterns in the coming months.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department said water levels across the country’s major reservoirs currently stood at around 50% of capacity.

Director of the Department’s Water Management Unit H.M.P.S.D. Herath said reservoirs managed by the Irrigation Department were currently holding around 35% of their total storage capacity.
