A team of officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption visited Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake’s residence this morning.
Media reports claimed that the officials had visited his residence because he had failed to appear before the Commission despite being summoned.
However, responding to an inquiry, a close associate of Karunanayake said the MP had not attempted to evade the Commission.
The associate said Karunanayake had been asked to appear before the Commission in connection with an investigation but was unable to attend on the specified date. His lawyers had therefore requested an alternative date, to which the Commission had reportedly agreed.
The officials had visited the residence despite this arrangement, the associate added.
Karunanayake’s lawyers said he would appear before the Bribery Commission on a future date.
