The Court of Appeal is scheduled to hear arguments today (31) in a Quo Warranto application challenging MP Archchuna Ramanathan’s eligibility to hold parliamentary office.
The case was previously postponed because the Court of Appeal bench had not been properly constituted.
The application was filed by Abhinawa Niwahal Peramuna leader Oshala Herath, who alleges that Ramanathan submitted nomination papers for the General Election while still serving as a government medical officer.
The petitioner argues that submitting nominations without first resigning from government service violates the Parliamentary Elections Act and has sought a declaration that Ramanathan is not legally entitled to serve as an MP.
