SDIG Ajith Rohana Retires After 38 Years of Police Service

Attorney-at-Law Dr. Ajith Rohana, who served as the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the North Western Province will be retired from the Sri Lanka Police in coming days, completing 38 years of service.

A police guard of honour was held at the Welagedara Stadium in Kurunegala today (8) to mark his retirement.

Dr. Rohana, an LL.B graduate and Attorney-at-Law, entered the history books as the youngest officer to be appointed a Deputy Inspector General of Police in Sri Lanka.

He became widely known among the public while serving as Police Spokesman during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he played a prominent role in communicating public safety information. His professional expertise and approachable manner also earned him broad public recognition.

Born in Kosgama, Avissawella, Dr. Rohana is an alumnus of Ananda College, Colombo. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Open University of Sri Lanka and was admitted as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court.

In 2020, he was also awarded an honorary doctorate in recognition of his public service.
