The ashes of late veteran singer Dr. Nanda Malini were released into the Kelani River by her relatives on Saturday (12) morning, in accordance with her final wish.
Nanda Malini, whose songs inspired generations and touched the hearts of Sri Lankans during a career spanning seven decades, passed away on 20 August, leaving the nation in mourning.
At her request, no eulogies were delivered at her funeral. She had also asked that her ashes not be preserved and that no memorial be erected in her name.
Honouring her wishes, close family members released her ashes into the waters of the Kelani River.
