Special teams from the Counter Terrorism Investigation Division (CTID) have launched an investigation into remarks made by Parliamentarian Ramanathan Archchuna at a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna rally in Anuradhapura on 12 September.

The remarks allegedly promoted a banned terrorist organisation, according to police.

The investigation was referred to the CTID following a complaint lodged by the Joint Opposition. Police said inquiries had commenced on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police.
