A lecturer at the National College of Education (Teachers’ Training College) in Addalaichenai, Ampara, has been arrested by the Ampara Division Children and Women’s Bureau for alleged sexual harassment of female trainee teachers.

According to the police, the suspect had allegedly been harassing the female students over a period of time by showing them obscene videos.

Investigations revealed that the victims remained silent for an extended period out of fear that lodging a complaint would result in lower academic marks, as the lecturer was responsible for subject grading.

The investigation was launched following information received by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Priyantha Bandara Kasthuriarachchi of the Ampara Division. Police recorded statements from the affected trainee teachers prior to making the arrest.
