A bank officer accused of helping Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera evade arrest while warrants issued by three courts were outstanding was remanded until October 9.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order after the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) arrested the suspect, a resident of Kelaniya, and produced him before court.
The CCD told court that the suspect had allegedly transported Gnanasara Thera in his vehicle from Rajagiriya to the Elpitiya area despite knowing that warrants had been issued for the monk’s arrest.
Police said the suspect was being investigated under the Penal Code over allegations of helping the monk evade arrest and failing to comply with court orders.
The CCD sought his remand, stating that investigations had not yet been completed. After considering the submissions, the Chief Magistrate remanded the suspect until October 9.
