A court has authorized police to detain and question former Colombo Municipal Councillor Mahinda Kahandagama until October 12 following his arrest over alleged possession of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice.”
The Police Central Criminal Investigation Bureau arrested Kahandagama near a restaurant in Mirihana on the night of October 5.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) said Kahandagama was not a member of the party and that it therefore could not take disciplinary action against him.
The party further said he had contested under its electoral list through a quota allocated to Vasudeva Nanayakkara’s party.
Meanwhile, several audio recordings purportedly capturing conversations between Kahandagama and alleged drug traffickers have been circulating on social media.
