Veteran Bollywood actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Goa on Thursday.
Patekar was found unconscious at his residence and was taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors were unable to revive him.
Hospital sources confirmed that cardiac arrest was the cause of death, although the specific trigger remains unclear.
Born Vishwanath Patekar in Maharashtra, he began his career in Marathi theatre before moving into Indian cinema. He gained recognition for his powerful performances in films including Salaam Bombay! and later became a prominent figure in mainstream Bollywood.
Known for his intense screen presence and distinctive dialogue delivery, Patekar appeared in a wide range of serious and comedic roles alongside leading actors including Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. His performances earned him several national and regional awards.
News of his death has prompted tributes from fellow actors and members of the Indian film industry.
