Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala announced today (7 December) that 747 suspects have been arrested so far with regard to the Easter Sunday terror attacks in 2019 following investigations carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID).

Speaking in Parliament, the Minister revealed that the Attorney General has filed charges against 100 suspects in 14 cases before the High Court. He also stated that further investigations are ongoing.

Minister Wijepala noted that new developments in the Easter attack investigations have emerged, including facts revealed in the Channel 4 documentary and other independent inquiries. Based on these findings, additional legal actions will be taken.

He further explained that since the current government took office, the investigations have entered a new phase. On 11 November, the matter was reported to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, leading to intensified efforts. Statements have been recorded from 48 individuals, including 12 civilian witnesses, 7 military personnel, 24 police officers, and 3 prison officers, as part of the ongoing inquiry.
