The Police Illegal Assets Investigation Division has issued a suspension order for a BMW car valued at approximately Rs. 22 million, suspected to have been purchased using proceeds from drug trafficking, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The order came into effect on October 13 and will remain in force for 14 days.
According to the Police Media Division, a suspect residing in the Negombo area, who was arrested in connection with drug trafficking, had allegedly purchased the vehicle using illicit funds generated through the drug trade and registered it in his son’s name.
The Illegal Assets Investigation Division is conducting further investigations into the matter, the Police Media Division stated.
