The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested the former Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Galle District Crimes Division in connection with the murder of a man identified as Almeida, who was allegedly the chief gunman of organised crime figure Loku Patty.

In June, an unidentified body was discovered near a bridge over the Gin River in Wakwella, Galle. The victim’s hands and feet had been tied, and the body was secured to a concrete pillar. The face had also been severely disfigured.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the body belonged to Almeida, who was believed to be Loku Patty’s chief gunman.

Investigations into the killing reportedly uncovered further information relating to the incident.
