Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thera said that if the President did not grant a pardon to Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, they would have to consider electing another President.
He made the remarks while joining the protest at Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo last night (18).
Kassapa Thera, who had been hospitalized on October 17, returned to the protest yesterday. He said its main objective was to secure the unconditional release of Gnanasara Thera, who is serving a prison sentence.
He claimed that the Government had misunderstood the protest and believed the monks were attempting to overthrow it.
“If the President continues to act stubbornly and there is no other lawful way to secure his release, what else can we do? We will have to get what we want done, even if it means electing another President,” he said.
