Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thera said he would offer President Anura Kumara Dissanayake blessed water and tie a pirith thread on his wrist only if the President sought forgiveness, acknowledged the strength of the Maha Sangha and pledged to secure Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera’s release.
Speaking to the media, Kassapa Thera said the President would have to visit him, pay obeisance and admit that he had made a mistake.
He said he would offer the blessing only if the President declared: “Please forgive us, Venerable Sir. We did not realize the Maha Sangha was this powerful. I made a mistake, and I will take steps to release Gnanasara Thera.”
