Former MP Duminda Silva, who is on death row and had been receiving treatment at the Prison Hospital, was transferred to Welikada Prison earlier today (10 January).

Recently, the Prisons Department denied reports claiming that Silva was receiving special facilities at the Prison Hospital and released photographs of the ward where he was being treated. Prisons Spokesman Gamini B. Dissanayake clarified that Silva had been receiving residential treatment at Ward No. 3 of the Prison Hospital, alongside more than 50 other inmates who are also undergoing treatment.

The Prisons Department also made a formal inquiry with the Director General of Health Services to determine whether Silva should continue receiving residential treatment at the Prison Hospital. A medical board was appointed to assess the situation, and further action will be taken based on their recommendations, according to the spokesperson.
