The Forecasting Division of the National Meteorological Centre has warned of heavy showers exceeding 100 mm in the Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa district today.
Showers are also likely in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, with thundershowers expected in several areas during the afternoon or night.
Fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm are forecast in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts.
Strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h, are predicted in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.
Morning misty conditions are anticipated in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts.
The public is urged to take precautions to minimise potential damage from temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
