Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce, and Food Security, R.M. Jayawardena, announced that all mill owners and storekeepers purchasing paddy during the Maha season must register with the Paddy Marketing Board.

This registration initiative aims to create a data system to track rice stocks and prevent their concealment. The government has introduced the paddy purchasing programme to ensure a steady supply of rice and avoid shortages.

Jayawardena further stated that the government plans to announce a fixed price for both paddy and rice simultaneously, ensuring stability in the market.
