The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the submission of a draft bill on property earned from criminal activities to Parliament for its concurrence. The approval was granted following a proposal by the Minister of Justice and National Integration at the Cabinet meeting on 9 December 2024, Cabinet Spokesperson Nalinda Jayatissa said.

The minister made this remark during the weekly Cabinet media briefing.

The draft bill, prepared by the Legal Draftsman with clearance from the Attorney General, aims to address the issue of assets acquired through criminal means. The proposed legislation is intended to strengthen legal measures for identifying, seizing, and managing such property.

The draft will now be published in a government gazette notification before being formally submitted to Parliament for debate and approval.
