Sri Lanka have been very successful in the ICC Women’s U19W World Cup, with an 81-run win over the West Indies in Kuala Lumpur.

Sri Lanka broke their own record by posting the highest ever total in the tournament. Fresh off a 162-run win over hosts Malaysia on Monday, Sri Lanka were desperate to keep their tournament hopes alive with a 166 against the West Indies in Kuala Lumpur.

Those massive efforts were matched by their work on the field, as the West Indies batting line-up bowled them out for 85 runs in 20 overs.

As the West Indies missed some opportunities in the field, Sri Lanka were clinically 79-1 in the middle of their innings, winning the toss and opting to set the score.

Openers Sanjana Kavindi (38 off 36 balls) and Sumudu Nisansala (19 off 22 balls) put on 54 for the first wicket in less than seven overs to help lead the match, with Sumudu’s massive six over mid-wicket (above See) it was remarkable.

The clean hitting continued even after the 10 over mark thanks to valuable contributions from skipper Manudi Nanayakkara (37 off 31 balls) and Dhamma Sanethma (31 off 25 balls).

Tricky left-armer Selena Ross was the pick of the bowlers, taking 25-2 from her four overs, while Jahasara Claxton’s dismissal of Hiruni Kumari was also a highlight.
