Another Case to Be Filed Against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, AG Informs Court

The Attorney General has informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that another case will soon be filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa concerning the acquisition of assets illegally.

Senior Deputy Solicitor General (SDSG) Dileepa Peiris, representing the Attorney General, stated that the CID is currently investigating the purchase of land in 2013 for Rs. 50 million, as well as matters related to the operations and revenue generation of the Carlton Sports Network (CSN). SDSG Peiris assured the Court that cases relevant to these investigations would be filed in due course.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the second son of former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, was previously arrested on 25 January on charges of money laundering. This case pertains to the purchase of a 31.5-perch property in Ratmalana for Rs. 34 million, which was registered under the name of his grandmother, Daisy Forrest.

Rajapaksa was granted bail today (27 January) by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
