The Supreme Court has adjourned the bail application of Immigration and Emigration Controller Harsha Illukpitiya to 29 January. The court ordered that Illukpitiya remain in remand custody until the application is heard before a bench led by Justice Preethi Padman Surasena.

Illukpitiya is currently in custody on charges of contempt of court for allegedly failing to comply with an interim injunction issued by the Supreme Court. The injunction pertains to Fundamental Rights petitions challenging the introduction of an electronic visa issuance system during the previous government.
