Seventeen police officers have been dismissed in the past four months for allegedly using narcotic drugs, Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga said today (11).

He stated that intelligence units and the Special Police Unit have identified officers involved in drug use, who are now under strict surveillance. Suspected officers will be subjected to medical tests, and those confirmed to have used drugs will be immediately dismissed.

“There will be no leniency—officers like these tarnish the entire police force,” Manathunga stressed, adding that decisive action will be taken against all involved.
