The office of the Superintendent of Police in Panadura has launched an investigation after a 24-year-old father-of-one, who was arrested by Wadduwa Police, died after vomiting blood at home following his release on police bail.

The deceased, R.M. Samitha Dilshan, a resident of Thalpitiya, was taken into custody in connection with a vehicle accident, detained for several hours, and later released.

According to reports, he fell ill at home and was hospitalized after vomiting blood. He later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Panadura Hospital. The investigation was initiated following a complaint by his wife, Roshini Lakmali, to the Superintendent of Police in Panadura.

A hospital spokesperson confirmed that the body has been placed at Panadura Base Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Wadduwa Police stated that officers on mobile patrol saw two individuals, including the deceased, riding a motorcycle with visible injuries. They were arrested on suspicion of committing a crime and attempting to flee. After being detained for several hours, both were released and handed over to their families for medical treatment.

Following the incident, residents of Thalpitiya staged a protest outside the Wadduwa Police Station last night (11), leading to a tense situation. Police from nearby stations, including Bandaragama, Pinwatta, Moronthuduwa, and Hirana, were deployed to restore order.
