Billionaire businessman Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has ended a number of projects it deemed wasteful, including a climate adaptation project in Sri Lanka.
In a note published on ‘X’, the department named two of the 199 projects it had canceled.
“Over the past two days, excellent coordination across 35 agencies has resulted in ~$250mm savings in the termination of 199 wasteful contracts, including:
-Contract for “Asia Pacific – Sri Lanka Climate Change Mitigation Adaptation and Resilience Coordination Services Forest Service”
Workshop for “Communicating Across Differences Intercultural Communication Diversity Dialogue Circle,” the note said.
‘Climate alert’ is one of the areas Musk hopes to combat through his department, which he says will cut wasteful spending from government agencies.
