Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala has revealed that a police constable attached to the Maharagama Police Station was transferred to Mullaitivu based on a false intelligence report.
Watagala stated that the report alleged the officer had links to an associate of a drug dealer. However, after the transfer was implemented, residents of the area raised concerns, questioning why a police officer known for his commendable work in combating narcotics was removed.
“The Ministry received numerous complaints from the public about why such an honest officer was transferred. Because of this, we initiated an inquiry into the matter. It was then revealed that the transfer was based on a fabricated intelligence report, deliberately created to justify his removal,” Watagala said.
He further stressed that the government would not allow such fraudulent actions to go unpunished and vowed to take strict measures against those responsible.
