Second Reading of 2025 Budget Begins in Parliament

The debate on the Second Reading of the 2025 Appropriation Bill, marking the 79th Budget Speech, commenced in Parliament this morning (17 February).

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilisation & National Policies, presented the budget proposals for the 2025 fiscal year yesterday.

The vote on the Second Reading is set for 25 February at 6:00 p.m., following a seven-day debate from 18 to 25 February. The Committee Stage Debate will run for 19 days, including four Saturdays, from 27 February to 21 March.

The final vote on the Third Reading of the bill is scheduled for 21 March at 6:00 p.m.
