A suspect involved in supplying the firearm used in the recent Kotahena shooting, which claimed one life, has been arrested by the Colombo North Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau.

The shooting, carried out by two individuals on a motorcycle, took place on 21 February. Acting on intelligence, officers apprehended the suspect on 23 February at the ‘Methsanda Sevana’ housing complex in Modara.

The arrested individual, a 28-year-old Modara resident, is believed to have ties to an organised criminal and a drug trafficker operating from abroad. Investigations reveal he transported the shooter from Colombo Fort to Kosgashandiya and provided the firearm and ammunition used in the crime.

The Police also uncovered his involvement in supplying the weapon used in another shooting and murder in Kotahena on 10 February.

The suspect has been handed over to the Kotahena Police Station
