Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath addressed the 58th Regular Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, outlining Sri Lanka’s commitment to human rights, reconciliation, and economic transformation.

In his speech, Herath highlighted the government’s progress since the 2024 elections, emphasising its efforts to stabilise the economy, promote inclusivity, and support vulnerable communities. He underscored key budget allocations for social welfare, education, and healthcare, particularly in conflict-affected regions.

Herath also introduced the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, aimed at fostering ethical governance and combating corruption through digital transformation. He reiterated Sri Lanka’s dedication to national unity and reconciliation, noting initiatives such as opening roads in the Northern Province and inviting Tamil-speaking youth to join the police service.

On international engagement, Herath reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s cooperation with UN human rights mechanisms and its commitment to addressing challenges through domestic frameworks. He called for balanced and non-selective approaches to human rights issues on the global stage.

Sri Lanka, he stated, remains focused on inclusive development and constructive engagement with the international community.
