PM Reveals Massive Rs. 3.5 Billion Spent on MR’s Foreign Trips, with Rs. 1.1 Billion in 2013 Alone

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya made a special revelation in Parliament today (27) regarding the expenses incurred on foreign trips by former presidents.

According to the figures presented, the total expenditure on overseas travel during their respective terms was as follows:

  • Mahinda Rajapaksa (2010-2014): Rs. 3,572 million
  • Maithripala Sirisena (2015-2019): Rs. 384 million
  • Gotabaya Rajapaksa (2020-2022): Rs. 126 million
  • Ranil Wickremesinghe (2023-2024): Rs. 533 million
  • Anura Kumara Dissanayake (Sept 2024 – Feb 2025): Rs. 1.8 million

Amarasuriya highlighted that the highest annual expenditure was recorded in 2013 during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s presidency, amounting to Rs. 1,144 million in a single year.
